Troubleshooting: board files

Your board file stays on your computer whatever happens. These are the cases where it won't open, match or stay where it was, with what to do.

The board file won't open

The bench says why. "Unrecognised board file format" means it is not a boardview NextProbe reads; check the formats in Open your board files. "Allegro is not supported" or "Altium Designer is not supported" means it is a PCB design file: export a boardview from it first. A file over 64 MB is refused. Your file stays on your computer whatever happens.

An FZ file asks for a key

The file is encrypted and NextProbe doesn't ship a key. Paste yours (the FZKey line from OpenBoardView) into the prompt, and the bench saves it and opens the file. If the prompt comes back saying the key did not open it, the key is wrong for that file.

"The file for 820-xxxxx has moved"

The file the bench remembered for this board is no longer where it was. Press Find it and choose it in its new place. If it is the same file, the bench remembers the new place.

Picking a board doesn't open its file

The library search looks for the board number in the file's name or folder path. Rename the file or its folder to include the number, or open it once with Open board file; the bench remembers it for that board from then on. Check the folder is listed in Settings → Board files and keys.

The file opened against the wrong board

Open Settings → Board files and keys, and press Forget beside the file. The next time you open it, match it to the right board.

"Not matched" on a board file

The file doesn't carry a board number the bench can find. Search for the board in the header, or press Use for and the board number when you picked the board on Home first (Open your board files).

"C7010 is not in this file. Search for it, or pick the pad yourself"

Your boardview names the part differently or lacks the test pad the step uses. Press Find to search for it, or right-click the right pad and choose Use this pad for C7010 (Notes, photos and the right-click menu).

On the Mac App Store version, a remembered file asks to be picked again

The Mac's sandbox lost its permission for that file, often after the file was moved or its disk renamed. Pick the file again with Find it or Open board file, and the bench keeps the new permission.

Your board files never leave your computer.
